Roopesh Kohad: I and my friend have reached manali yesterday. We did Delhi -> Chandigarh on 1st day, Chandigarh -> Narkanda on 2nd day, Narkanda ->
Manali 3rd day. Today is our 4th day as rest and preparing for Leh.
Few tips:-
- There is lot of rain in himachal at this time. We had to drive in rain on 2nd & 3rd day and even today in manali its all cloudy, so good raincoat and water proofing your luggage is a must.
- For people with bajaj bikes, there is a sevice station in "Bhuntar" some 50 kms before Manali, o/w you'll only get local mechanic shops which are short of spares. Most of the mechanic shops in Manali are on the road to Rohtang with 2-3 km after crossing the Beas bridge.
- Shimla -> Manali road via Jalori pass is absolute beauty with no big towns with almost nil traffic from Narkanda but bad roads as compared to conventional road to Manali. The final ascent from Khanag to Jalori pass and 10 km down from there is horrible. There is a "khud" (stream) 1 km from Khanag towards Jalori which in rain & even o/w is very difficult to cross. My bike got stuck in it and had to be pulled out with the help of others. So, be aware of that.

Dr. Prithvi : 7.04 p.m.
At Kullu airport view hotel. 250km done. stopped for the day. All
ok. Wet like hell. Rain all day. came via swarghat, beautiful. stopped
for taking pics and took it easy. Nalagar to bilaspur very bad road.
Tomorrow getting up late and reach Manali 'aramse'

at Manali since 12 noon. Info from HP tour office and local drivers. Leh
road was closed on Friday due to landslide. Traffic moving bothways today.
Much less rain today. Plan to leave Monday. All being ok. Buying thermals
and other stuff for the trip. Havea nice weekend. will call you on Monday.

Near ludhiana. Staying put for today after jsr's bull got a puncture and gopan's bull's engine seized. We are moving at max 60. Boy I miss moonie's company. Rather ... his bikes. My gal is being sqeezed by bulls.

Just entered jammu. The roads ... its a different ball game.

Reached udhampur. Good banked roads till now. Clear weather till now. Locals say its raining heavily over there. All three of us in good shapre and so are bikes.

55% clear day, loitered around, bike pressure washed. Talked with 10
drivers, tour ooperators and the like - traffic is moving both ways.
thereappears to be 3 breaches upto Leh - Grampho to spiti valley side closed
now. Plan to leave at 8 am tomorrow, all being ok and halt at keylong. no
BSNL- will try and call from local phone.

Left sarchu 7.10 am reaching leh at 5.40 pm with breaks. Reserve at
entrance of leh town.
Prithvi : 1330 hrs (on call with Ashwani)
Doc called up from Leh. He is quite comfy. Traffic is moving on both
routes : Leh-Manali and Leh-Srinagar except some minor breaches which Doc
happily negotiated. Weather is good. Tomorrow will be going to Khardungla.
Planning to come via Kargil-Srinagar.So it's Doc all the way.
