The Start

Bikenomads was started in Sep 2002 as a yahoo group on touring on bikes by Rahul and Vibhu. The issue before the two of them was to how to get people on disparate bikes to go together on the same journey. Till that time most of the groups were bike specific and since the Bullet was the bike which had the max news space for bike which tours, no group was willing to allow any other bike type in the trips.

Out of sheer frustration and the injustice of it all, Bikenomads was started.

Even now the yahoogroup functions as the behind the scene force for this website.

The Philosophy

At BN we want to help any person with any two wheeler with a will to tour to mingle with like minded people and go on the trip.

As we say "Got Bike ? Will Ride! "

BTW, we have a long list of slogans to choose from !

The point here we try to make is that the rider is bigger than the bike. No matter what bike you have, you are welcome to ride with it. As such we have members in the early 20s to the late 50s donning on their helmets and riding gears and setting off on their steeds ... "just riding".

We also do not arrange any trip. We kind of just get together and go on a trip. As such, this is not an organization or corporation , just a group of bikers who want to see more of the country while riding.

One thing we do not tolerate is the bike wars about which bike is better. We firmly believe that people have their own choices and their own likings, and their having a bike which does not confirm to another persons idea of biking does not make him a worse person.

The People

This lists the main people behind BN and the site.

• Vibhu (diablo) - Co-starter of BN . Also is the moderator and updater of Wiki.
• Rahul Verma - Co-starter of BN. No other claim to fame ;-)
• Sojish - Website owner and moderator. Rides a ZMA
• Praveen (moonie) - Website updater when he is not riding his ZMA to far off places.
• Jay - Website helper. But mostly is thumping around on his bullet 500.
• Hitanshu - IIMA Grad, but spends more time on his Caliber. Perennially planning his next trip. Wiki Expert.
• Rakesh Barua (Rocky) - Co mod of BN YG. Rides a Thunderbird.

How you can help

This is a Wiki and as such requires your help in maintaining it. The concept of a wiki is that it is an encyclopedia of knowledge which is built in a co-operative manner. As such the wiki builds itself up over time. However, there are many places where you can help us out :

• Destinations is a list of destinations for the BNikers. If you have more info about a place or know of a place you have been to , but the info is not listed, you can provide the same.
• Articles section has a list of biker specific articles. You can contribute your biking knowledge.
• Why We Ride is the philosophy section. You can write your article as to biking and life , and contribute.
• Approved Bike Service Centers has a list of the best mechanics in town. You can help us by providing us with the address of your mechanic whom you feel is a great person to give bikes to.

For the above, if you are wiki-literate , feel free to edit. Else, just join the BN yahoo group and post it there, and one of the wiki mods will upload the info !
