Destinations within the Dangs

The Dangs district is a tribal area in the Sahyadris, which is pretty much virgin territory.

Only BSNL works here. If your bike breaks down, chances are you wouldnt find a mech for miles. The upside is that the number of tourists is virtually nil!

  • Wilson Hill: Just off the Dharampur crossing, ask for Wilson Hill. It is a 14km climb (once off road) to the top that leads to amazing views

  • Vansda : The entrance for the Dangs, you find the national park there. Do make it a point to stay at the machaan :)
  • Gira Falls: Its quite a spectacle, albeit a dangerous one. It is on the Waghai-Saputara route some 3km shy of Waghai.

  • Mahal : Its virgin territory, full of bamboo forests, villages who seem stuck in the middle ages, and a nice waterfall - its an amazing ride during which one finds several campsite like points (see pics). The best route to take is Ahwa road from Waghai, take a dip in the river.

  • Ahwa : Its nothing more than a glorified pitstop. I suggest one avoids it and rides from Mahal-Ahwa-Saputara without stopping here.
  • Saputara: The border area, it is completely not dry, unlike the rest of Gujarat. It features an eminently forgettable lake and plateau, and is nothing more than a glorified truck stop. But the nearby waterfall, the ride upto Saputara and the booze availability make it a hit with the Surti crowd.
