Helmets : positives and negatives

This is a based on a discussion on the herohondacbz group. I have also added my counter arguments where applicable...
The Positives of wearing a helmet
- they protect ur face in case of minor falls and save the money spent on plastic surgeon
- birds don't shit on ur face-thanks to the visor!
- rain rain go away!!
- wind or no wind..helmet hai na!
- u don't end up with watery eye which acts as a Prism at night and u get a kaleidoscope effect until u bang on to a wall!
- u can get away from ur ex-friends/galfrnds :) who r still looking for u for ripping their CD100s/(no comments for gf)!
- above all, u have a feeling of being safe n sensible
Negatives... (with counter arguments)
1 :Cause most accidents due to limited field of vision.
CA :This is very much debatable, a human field of vision is around 200degrees, with a helmet on and the use of rear view your field ofvision is more than this. So how do you say it would be limited?
2 : Can't hear horns or other riders.
CA : Too much noise can cause you deafness, the helmet's padding acts afilter to suppress some unwanted noises.
3 : Difficult to turn around n look at the chicks on the roads.

diablo : If you are looking around for chicks, well, you are inviting an accident, and a helmet becomes really useful then
4 : It gives u a headache at the end of the day

5 : U get all kinds of spinal/neck/shoulder problems on sus
CA : 8 years of regular use hasn't given me anytained use.

6. hair loss!!!
CA : And I haven't gone bald either Keeping helmet clean is very essential. How long would you not wash clothes before they start tostink? Have you cleaned your helmet any time? Check this link for somedetails on keeping a helmet clean
diablo : With the amount of pollution in the cities nowdays, I find that the helmet actually protects my hair, as there is lesser grime going into it. If you are unable to clean your helmet, wear a bandana on your head before putting on your helmet.
7. doesn't save ur head in anything more than a mild accidents
CA : Mild Accidents?
8. most helmets even with ISI mark break at first fall!! So not very reliable
CA : If you have understood the role of a helmet you wouldn't havewritten this as a negative point. The role of a helmet is to absorbthe force of the impact and not transfer the same to the user of thehelmet, in this process of impact absorption the helmet structurewould definitely suffer damage. Would you want your head to take theimpact?
9 : u get strange prismatic effects n lading to accidents on rainy nights
CA : How you feel otherwise riding without a helmet? - Keeping helmetvisor clean and scratch free is one very important task of maintaininga helmet.
10. u seem to get bugged up carrying it arnd or remembering abt it always.
