Considered as one of the Highest place attainable by transportation, Marsimik La 5,590m, 34°05.6′N 78°37.1′E, depending on definition of "attainable by transportation". Khardung La 5,359 m is considered as the Highest motorable road in the World.

Getting There

It's via Pangong lake. Just before the lake turn left and follow the route to Pobran, no metalled road and no markings. The last check post is Pobran. it's advisable to offload all extra luggage.

Detailed Description of the Route
  • Take the route to Pangaong Tso (via Chang La), 500 mts before reaching Pangong Tso there is a road breaking away to the left. Note the board saying "pangong complex 500 mts ahead" .. theres also a small blue colour board on the split where "Phobran" is written with a doctors cross symbol.


  • There's a asphalt road for around 2-3 kms before dirt track starts. Since there is only one dirt track so no getting lost. After few Kmts there is a break in the road with a small piece of stone wher it is written which road to take to PHOBRAN ..
  • Reaching Phobran one will be greeted by ITBP people who will check your permits and papers.
  • The route from Phorang to M La is dirt track with loose sand take few short cuts and dont sway far away from the main dirt track. Depending on the motorcycle's condition and your skill take the short cuts or have fun in the sand..
